An Encounter With ENGLISH

Let’s face it: English is a crazy language. English is a funny Language it has no rule. The pronunciation of BUT and PUT is so different even using the same vowel in between. Similar case with GO and TO and you can find many more examples like this. Now just check it out. MAID and MADE, WAIT and WEIGHT the pronunciation is same in these pairs of words with such a difference in their meaning. Well forget about the pronunciation, lets talk about something like this. If the plural of tooth is teeth... Then why do we have TOOTHBRUSH and TOOTHPASTE don’t you think we brush all are teeth and not only one tooth so it should be TEETH BRUSH AND TEETH PASTE… what say? Even we have noses that run and feet that smell and how can OVERLOOK and OVERSEE be opposites, while QUITE A LOT and QUITE A FEW are alike? People, not computers, invented English and it reflects the creativity of the HUMAN RACE (which, of course, isn't a race at all). That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it, but when I will wind up this essay, I end it. If people from Poland are called "Poles," why aren't people from Holland called "Holes"? Then the masculine pronouns are HE, HIS and HIM. But imagine the feminine SHE, SHIS and SHIM. Now another confusion. What is a "free" gift? Aren't all gifts free? If an orange is orange, why isn't a lime called a green or a lemon called a yellow? It doesn't matter what temperature a room is, it's always room temperature. Even the word ABBREVIATION is neither shortened nor contracted and is doing injustice with its name and meaning. Even the proverbs are contradicting each other like 'All good things come to those who wait' but 'Time and tide wait for no man'. Similarly 'Wise men think alike' but 'Fools seldom differ'.

There is really no other language that is as confusing, as contentious as English is.

But irrespective of all this facts English still is very important in each individual’s life and their progress. English language is one tool to establish our viewpoint. It is our window to the world. It comes to our aid in our commercial transactions throughout the globe. With IT, we can open ourselves to the world and the only way we can connect to the world is with this universal language. No matter in whichever field we are working English is the tool.

If you are a businessman you would have to learn English to expand your business to oversea.

If you are students you would have to learn English for your own bright future or, at least, pass the exam.

If you are an employee you would have to learn English for the benefit of your career.

Even if you are just a streetwalker you still want to learn English to understand what's going on in the world....

OK forget about the working people. Even in our high school and in our college days haven’t you seen people recognized because they could speak English so well. Don’t tell me that you never envied a person who knows better English than you and even must have wanted to be like him or her. Even you must have tried to impress your friend by speaking in English and tried to prove that you are so knowledgeable. English has become the common man’s language. It is considered as an elite language and our thirst of learning more and better English is never satisfied.

No matter who you are. Learning English is very important. You can't avoid it and do not avoid it before you getting too far behind.
